Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Secondment on the Respiratory Care Unit. This position is for an individual who is a highly motivated individual with experience of working within the Respiratory speciality. In our 7 bedded Respiratory Care Unit we care for a wide variety of acutely ill patients, with many patients requiring NIV, CPAP and Airvo. In addition, they may have Invasive Line Monitoring such as Arterial and Central Lines. This band 6 nurse role will consist of providing expert respiratory nursing care to these complex patients and lead by example in compassionate and quality care.

The successful candidate will be required to take charge of the Unit and lead a team of our junior staff with their learning and developmental needs. We will expect you to accommodate a flexible shift pattern, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage time, prioritise workload along with the ability to work under pressure.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
The post holder will promote clinical excellence through theirpractice participating in evidence-based practice.
The post holder will ensure that all nursing documentation is complete, up to date and in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.
The post holder is expected to take a lead role in facilitating, educate, supervising, supporting and developing both qualified and unqualified staff, within their sphere of responsibility on a daily basis.
The post holder is expected to lead a team of staff at band 5 or below.
The post holder will demonstrate the ability to manipulate medical devices and other fine instruments such as needles.
The post holder will follow safeguarding measures for both adults and children.
The post holder will be required to be physically active and undertake such tasks as pushing and pulling trolleys and commodes, to manoeuvre patients and equipment.
The post holder will adhere to the safe custody and administration of medicines standards and demonstrate the requirements of the policy such as calculation of drug dosages or iv additives.
The post holder will demonstrate skills in extended scope of practice relevant to their sphere of responsibility eg advanced life support, cannulation.
