Job summary

Barnsley Hospitals Orthopaedic Elective Ward now has a Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse vacancy for a 12-month secondment or fixed term to cover maternity leave available.

We are a 12 bedded ward delivering care to elective patients ranging from day cases to major joint replacement surgeries. Ultimately, we assist patients in their recovery alongside Medics and Therapists to achieve their optimal level of independence and safe discharge home.

With significant delays in elective surgery as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our service is recovering to combat the long waiting lists. We are looking to develop our service to achieve 24hr discharge in hip and knee replacements. So, we are seeking someone passionate and enthusiastic to join the nursing team to achieve optimal recovery and timely turnaround for patients in a dynamic environment.

You will support and deputise for the Lead Nurse by managing and co-ordinating the day-to-day function of the ward, acting as ward representative in the absence of the Lead Nurse. You will be responsible for maintaining the provision of outstanding nursing care, effective staff management, staff and student education and development, and being a clinical resource for staff, patients and visitors.

We encourage informal discussions or visits to the ward, please contact Lead Nurse Emma Thorp if you would like to arrange this on emma.thorp1@nhs.net or 01226 436007.
