The Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit is for stable patients who require emergency surgical care that day or can be treated on an ambulatory basis without the need for admission.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fantastic team. The successful registered nurse will be self-motivated, always strives to give the highest standard of patient centred care and will be an effective team worker.

Surgical SDEC is located next to the Emergency Department (ED) / medical SDEC and is close to the radiology department. The department is staffed by a dedicated nursing team and with allied health professionals and a dedicated Surgical SpR. Consultant input is from the on-call surgical consultant and from the SDEC clinical lead. The unit is open from 7:30am-8:30 pm with referrals being accepted from 8am to 6pm seven days a week. Our Surgical SDEC unit opened 4 years ago and the successful candidate will be joining our unit at an exciting time in its development and will be part of a friendly and supportive team.

Main duties of the job

The band 6 coordinator needs a good understanding of ED and GP referrals for general surgery orthopaedic and ENT. The role responsibilities are patient flow, taking referrals from GP, leasing with ED to pull through patients that met the SSDEC criteria efficiently and quickly. The Coordinator of the unit will hold multiple MDT huddles throughout the day and support the nurses with patient assessment. This role is also responsible for any follow care that is need for out ambulatory patients. As a band 6 on the unit you will also assist the lead nurse in management responsibilities i.e RTW interviews and safe staffing of the unit
