Barnsley
Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) is delighted to be looking to appoint one
whole-time Consultant in Anaesthesia to
join our team. This post is to allow
expansion of anaesthetic services to meet activity and service specification
demands and includes daytime work on Labour Ward joining our team of Obstetric
anaesthetists.
This is an
exciting opportunity to work with our close knit anaesthetic and intensive care
team at a thriving district general hospital, while pursuing a significant
sub-specialty interest in Obstetric anaesthesia.
Main duties of the job
The Obstetric
anaesthesia department enjoys the following benefits:

bedded recently refurbished Labour Ward (the Barnsley Birthing Centre) Higher
risk observation cubicle with excellent support from Critical care
Consultant
led High risk Obs anaesthetic clinic once a month

in-house teaching and training
Dedicated
Obs anaesthetic second on-call rota.

to access study leave to attend major conferences.

Essential
- Clinical competence and appropriate training in the range of clinical practice required of the post.
- Be able to effectively supervise trainees with their clinical practice within the anaesthetic department.
- The passion and ability to teach and develop junior medical staff, clinical support staff and medical students and enhance their performance.
- The ability to create, enhance and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrates commitment to the post applied for.
- Has ability to empathise and interact effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team
- Shows concern for excellence and is able to set, prioritise and monitor performance against objectives.

Qualifications
Essential
- FRCA or equivalent with CCT in Anaesthetics at the time of commencing the post.
- Registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register (within 6 months of interview)
Experience
Essential
- Satisfactory completion of training as required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists as assessed by the College assessor.
- Suitable experience in all areas of clinical practice required for the post.
- Additional training/experience in Obsteric anaesthesia
Desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of the statutory and regulatory environment within which the medical services operate within the NHS.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Ockenden report and how it affects Maternity services
- A relevant PGCert or higher, or in progress
- Evidence of commitment to Obstetric anaesthesia
