Job summary
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is seeking to appoint a highly experienced Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse at Band 8A, with expert knowledge and demonstrable leadership experience in IPC.
This is a senior and influential position within the Infection Prevention and Control Team, working closely with the Associate Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DDIPC) and senior Trust leaders to provide professional and operational leadership for IPC across the organisation. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Trust meets and exceeds the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice for the prevention and control of infections, in line with national guidance and best practice.
You will deliver expert IPC advice across all clinical and non-clinical areas, lead the operational development of the IPC service, and support the senior IPCT in managing complex infection risks, outbreaks, and incidents. The post holder will operate confidently at senior and executive level, contributing to service improvement, quality assurance, and governance processes.

Main duties of the job
To work closely with the Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC), Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control (Associate DIPC), Lead IPC nurse , Infection Prevention & Control Doctor (ICD) and other Infection Prevention & Control Nurses (IPCNs) in the planning, provision and promotion of a comprehensive Infection Control Service for BHRUT.The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and development of a quality infection prevention and control service; providing leadership, support and guidance to all trust staff and ensuring a patient focussed service whilst managing the IPC Senior Nursing Team.
The post includes providing clinical and managerial leadership to the Infection Prevention & Control Nursing Team. The post holder will practice at an advanced level demonstrating a high level of autonomy and clinical decision-making. They will work as a highly specialised member of the Infection Prevention & Control Team (IPCT), to assist in containing and reducing the incidence of infection across the Trust, through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education. The role is a collaborative one, working with individuals and groups, across professional and organisational boundaries.
The post holder directly reports to the Lead CNS, Infection Prevention & Control. They will manage the IPC Senior Nursing Team.
