We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative professional to join our dedicated team in the Acute Medicine team.

This is a unique opportunity to join our existing team of dynamic Acute Medicine Consultants with a variety of specialist interests something as a department we would support.

BHRUT is one of the largest acute trusts in the UK, providing specialist trauma, oncology, neurosciences, hyper acute, stroke and critical care services.

We are passionate about developing excellent and sustainable services, including developing our capacity to act as the main tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex.

We have excellent academic centres with a vibrant educational programme. We have two Medical Receiving Units, SDEC and an Ambulatory Care Centre across our Queen's Hospital and King George's sites, delivering prompt and comprehensive acute medical care.

Main duties of the job

The Trust is dedicated to growing our own and developing our consultants through education and specialists interest. We are open to discussions regarding your specialty interests with potential to work in areas such as respiratory, gastro, endocrine and any alternative interests you may have. In addition to in-patient work, you will be expected to lead on other acute medicine commitments such as hot clinics and ambulatory clinics.

We have a multidisciplinary team to support you in your role, including a dedicated leadership team and governance team, with a doctor establishment of 5 registrars, 3 CT's 13 SHO and 5 FY1's.

We also have training doctors from London Deanery providing opportunities for you to get involved with training and developing our future medical workforce.

The Trust is in an excellent location, close to Central London and well situated in the South East. As well as all the advantages of being close to London, the Trust has on-site nursery facilities at Queen's and King George Hospital sites.

You must have CCT in General Medicine or within 6 months of obtaining CCT, with good experience in acute medicine.

All applicants must have full GMC registration.

For informal enquiries and or visits please email Maria Pickering, Service Manager for Acute Medicine -maria.pickering@nhs.net

About us

We're an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we're no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across northeast London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We're looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It'll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
