Locum Consultant Paediatrician with special interest In Urgent Care
This job is now closed
Job summary
Upwards of 60,000 children visit our emergency departments every year. This requires significant paediatrician input into providing care for these children. The acuity and demand is such that the traditional model of consultants managing both a chronic caseload and supporting the assessment and treatment of acutely unwell children arriving at the front door is more challenging and there is great opportunity for sub-specialisation in the emergency pathway and ambulatory care.
The successful candidate will join a team of paediatricians and neonatologists providing Child Health services to our local population of approximately 200,000 children. Providing General Paediatric expertise to our outpatient, inpatient, daycare and Emergency Department service, you will work as an acute paediatrician with colleagues to support the urgent care aspects of the service.
The consultant medical team works across both of our hot sites, Queen's Hospital, Romford, and King George Hospital, Ilford, and supports junior medical staff to deliver care to patients in all our patient settings.

We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.
We're pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings forurgent and emergency careat Queen's and King George hospitals; anddata released by NHS Englandshowed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.
