Job summary
Our SLT Team is looking for a motivated Band 7 Acute SLT to lead our acute services across both our sites (Queen's Hospital/King George Hospital). Reduced hours, flexible working, and job sharing can be considered.This exciting role covers a variety of specialities incl. geriatrics, respiratory, cardiology, A&E and admissions units, gastroenterology, surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, endocrine, and nephrology.
The post holder should have extensive experience managing acquired swallowing and communication difficulties within an acute adult setting. Your role will involve lots of teaching within the SLT Team and wider MDTs and access to regular instrumental clinics (6 clinics per week).
The post holder will lead on representing SLT at our established weekly complex and palliative nutrition MDT meetings and gain experience in supervision of junior members of staff within their acute rotations as well as students.
We would like a motivated and highly organised individual to lead on day to day management of the acute service incl. supporting complex decisions relating to swallowing and communication difficulties. A keen interest in palliative care is desirable due to the specialities covered.
Our SLT Team is ever growing and very supportive. We provide ample protected CPD time, training opportunities and peer support. Service development, audit and quality improvement is actively encouraged.

Main duties of the job
To provide autonomous specialist assessment, treatment and advice to inpatients across all acute wards with swallowing and communication difficulties. This includes geriatrics, respiratory, cardiology, A&E and admissions units, gastroenterology, surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, endocrine, nephrology.
To work alongside other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to give highly specialist guidance, advice and education to on matters relating to your specialist areas. To take the lead in representing SLT at our established weekly complex and palliative nutrition MDT meetings.
To lead on the management and support junior staff managing complex ethical feeding decisions alongside the MDT.
