Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is a large teaching Trust located in North East London. The Trust is the largest single site provider of maternity services in London and the third largest in England with approximately 7,500 deliveries per year. Inpatient maternity services are provided at the Queen's Hospital in Romford. Both Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital, based in Ilford, provide antenatal services. The successful candidate will join a team of 33 consultants of which 25 cover obstetrics and gynaecology. The consultants are divided into teams to provide continuity for high-risk women.

Main duties of the job

The Gynaecology Emergency Unit (GEU) is located on Sunrise B and provides a 24-hour, seven day a week service to women who present with a wide variety of gynaecological conditions. The unit sees up to 1400 women per month and is predominantly nurse led with some consultant sessions. The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU), also located on Sunrise B, is nurse-led and functions 08:00 - 20:00, seven days a week providing care to women with pregnancy-related complications up to 12 weeks gestation. This unit sees approximately 650 women per month.

Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.

As we recover from Covid-19, we're proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change. We are tackling the backlog in many ways including having super-clinics in the evening and weekends; using state-of-the art diagnostic equipment; and streamlining the way we work.

We carried out more than 12,000 surgeries in 2021 in our Covid secure 'green zone' at King George Hospital. In the same year, we completed more than 100,000 CT and MRI scans.

  • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM in Emergency Gynaecology .Fully trained obstetrician able to manage the labour ward independently, including high risk caesarian sections , Ability to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on-call rota for obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level to manage complex clinical problems Supervision of post graduate trainees

  • Fully trained gynaecologist able to manage surgical and non-surgical problems
