Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for applicants who have an interest in Neurosurgery Applications are invited for Trust Doctor ST2 Equivalent in Neurosurgery at Queen's commencing in August 2022. These posts are recognised banded posts and applicants must have full GMC Registration. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in ward base, Emergency patient care and on-call programme, clinical governance programme including appraisal and clinic slots wherever possible. There are active Postgraduate Centres and Teaching Programmes on each site.

The successful candidate will be given every opportunity to increase their experience within their area of specialist interest. Weekly departmental meetings and teaching are held on a Monday morning and there is weekly consultant teaching. Attendance at Clinical Governance and Morbidity and Mortality Meetings will be expected.

The Neurosurgery Department have a full Neurosurgery service on both the Queens's hospital site and King George Hospital

Main duties of the job

Clinical Fellow ST2 Equivalent in Neurosurgery

The Neurology unit at Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals trust is located on Sahara A ward and consists of inpatient beds and a day case unit. The post holder will be expected to clerk day case and inpatient admissions and organise their investigations as well as carry out ward rounds usually with a registrar but also independently if necessary. They will be expected to take bloods when necessary, insert IV access and perform lumbar punctures - training for the latter can be given.. There may also be times when the post holder is asked to perform ward duties for the stroke department in the event of sickness absence etc.

Junior doctors accept that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with his colleagues both senior and junior.

The duties of this post are subject to review at regular intervals in the light of developments within the Trust and changes may be made to this job accordingly.

Clinical fellow ST2 Equivalent post is available in Neurosurgery. This post will involve spending 100% of the time in clinical neurosurgery, i.e. the operative and non-operative management of neurosurgical patients during their inpatient stay on the ward, operating theatre and Neuro intensive care unit, as well as in the outpatient department.

The Clinical Fellow will make use of the academic and research opportunities available within the Essex Neuroscience Centre at BHR Trust. He/she will participate in the Clinical fellow will take part in a 1 in 7 on call rota. The post would be particularly appropriate for a candidate interested in furthering their experience of adult neurosurgery. There would be an opportunity to gain experience in subspecialties including pituitary, skull base and complex spinal surgery, treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and vascular neurosurgery.
