Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Team as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics. Working across our Inpatient and Outpatients services, this role will help our team deliver services to our local population, and the successful candidates will benefit from exposure to the variety of conditions seen and treated in a busy local hospital.

Main duties of the job

Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics

The Paediatric service delivers care at both Queen's and King George Hospitals. Queen's hospital has a 30 bedded inpatient ward called Tropical Lagoon which admits predominately emergency admissions from the Paediatric Emergency Department. This is generally the more acute site for paediatric admissions. Tropical Bay, also on the Queen's site, is a 12 bedded day care facility which opens Monday to Friday providing a variety of services - day surgery, ward attenders, paediatric oncology shared care service, neonatal jaundice service and MRI under sedation

About us

Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.

As we recover from Covid-19, we're proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change. We are tackling the backlog in many ways including having super-clinics in the evening and weekends; using state-of-the art diagnostic equipment; and streamlining the way we work.

We carried out more than 12,000 surgeries in 2021 in our Covid secure 'green zone' at King George Hospital. In the same year, we completed more than 100,000 CT and MRI scans.
