Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in General and Endocrine Surgeon This is an opportunity to join a busy, dynamic multidisciplinary team to help us improve the service that we provide to our population.
This is an 10 PA post for a Locum Consultant in General and Endocrine Surgeon at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital. The post will be based at King George Hospital and Queens Hospital cross site working. This post is a one year fixed term contract but will be extendable
The successful candidate will have a broad experience in the management of General Emergency and elective general and endocrine surgical patients.
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients, and raise departmental profiles through teaching and education.
The aim of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital, Surgical Division is to become a world leader in the field of surgical management through innovation, evidence based safe and effective patient care and the successful applicant must therefore have the pre-requisite procedural and leadership skills as well as team work, drive and ambition to succeed in achieving these goals.
Main duties of the job
The principle duties of this post are to deliver a high quality service to emergency and general surgery patients from the Barking Havering and Redbridge economy. The appointee would be expected to;
o Have a continuing responsibility for the clinical care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department.o Deliver a high quality responsive surgical service to the patients who use it.o Be responsible for providing appropriate inpatient cover to patientso Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of a clinical department.o Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current surgical practice.o Maintain his/her professional development with all available training opportunities and ensure compliance with mandatory trainingo Work with other Consultant colleagues as a teamo Take part in general surgery On Call Rota
About us
The General Surgery department is dynamic, enthusiastic and forward looking with a holistic patient centered outlook providing general surgery. The department is formed of Colorectal Surgery, Breast surgery (including onco-plastic), vascular and Acute Emergency Surgical services.
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients, and raise departmental profiles through teaching and education.

We have a busy emergency surgery service and this currently constitutes around 35% of the DCC workload for consultants. Appointees will have a broad training in general surgery and will be able to provide an on call service in general surgery. Vascular emergencies are cared for by a dedicated vascular team.
