Consultant Nephrologist

Job summary
The BHRUT renal service is provided as part of the North East London and Essex Renal Network in a hub and spoke model which allows patients with acute and chronic kidney disease to be managed locally.
Renal services based in BHRUT include in-patient management of acute and chronic renal conditions, inpatient referrals and general nephrology out-patients.
Patients with complex kidney diseases are managed up to dialysis and transplantation with the support of the specialist tertiary centre at Barts Health NHS Trust, based in Royal London Hospital. Haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation are provided by the specialist renal unit in Royal London Hospital and in two satellite units based in Queen's and King George.
Patients with acute kidney Injury requiring renal replacement therapy are largely managed in ITU and stepped-down to Royal London Hospital only if they need on-going dialysis or therapeutic plasma exchange. Acute kidney injury / end stage renal failure services have been recently bolstered with the installation of four haemodialysis stations within critical care to provide intermittent haemodialysis; a further two stations are being installed on the renal ward to manage our large cohort of inpatient haemodialysis patients with the support of the satellite unit.

We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic.
As we recover from Covid-19, we're proud to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and this will be one of the many benefits of our closer collaboration with Barts Health. Working with them and with all our partners across north east London, we will find a sustainable solution to enhance patient care.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
