Job summary
Trust Grade Junior Doctors in Neuroscience (Neurology)for a period of 3 months from the 1st May 2024 to 6th August 2024
Applications are invited for the position of junior Trust Grade in Neurosciences, the successful candidate will be based within the Neurology department during the standard days and working on the full shift rota. This post will be working with the trainees who are at the following levels F2, Core and ST1/2 at this large specialist centre.
The successful candidates will be expected to work flexibly; there is a commitment to the full shift rota with the Health Education North West Deanery trainees. The full shift rota covers all patients across the Trust including Neurosurgery and Rehab patients. You will be expected to have a good general medical background. The rota is a 1:15 week of nights, 1:7.5 long days and has a commitment to weekends.
Although these posts are not officially approved for training, they are suitable for doctors interested in gaining UK neurological and neurosurgical experience to then apply for training positions in neurology or neurosurgery, or related specialties, or for doctors with interest in disorders of the nervous system.

Main duties of the job

The role is complementary to the role of junior doctors in training, although it is not a training post. The post-holder will be able to access the same educational opportunities within the Trust as trainees, and will be allowed study leave and a small study leave budget to facilitate access to wider educational opportunities. An Educational Supervisor will be allocated to each post-holder. The Trust is keen to support those post-holders interested in gaining national selection.
Post-holders will work on the wards, but will also have a full commitment to the full shift rota cover the whole Trust. The morning starts with a Consultant handover meeting attended by all teams, following which each team subdivides and undertakes a ward round, clinical work emanates from this round. Also there will be opportunity to conduct emergency clinics under the close supervision of a Neurology consultant.
Emergency patients are dealt with by SMART (Surgical & Medical Acute Response Team) which has a junior doctor as part of the Team. Close liaison with SMART is essential to ensure effective patient handover takes place.
The role is ideal for those doctors who are considering a career in Neurology/ Neurosurgery or related disciplines as it will allow development of specific skills in a busy and expanding specialist Neurosciences Centre.

- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
