The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust

Team Lead Occupational Therapist (Acute)

The closing date is 27 May 2025

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to provide clinical and operational leadership to the Acute Inpatient Occupational Therapy Team at The Walton Centre in Liverpool.

In addition to providing clinical leadership and support to a large team of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, you will be at the forefront of setting the direction of the acute inpatient therapy service across the hospital.

You will take a lead on recruitment for the team and the wider occupational therapy service where indicated. We currently offer an Occupational Therapy degree apprenticeship and student training so knowledge and awareness of workforce support is essential.

Experience in a regional neurosciences unit is not essential, as an Occupational Therapist with proven experience and leadership in a stroke unit, ESD team or community neuro team is well-suited to the role. Confidence in liaising with multiple stakeholders including Senior Nursing colleagues, medical teams, bed management and other external agencies and rehabilitation providers is a core requirement of the role.

You will be supported by the Head of Therapies, team leads and Occupational Therapy peers to integrate into your new role. You will be supported to access additional education and training as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Operational leadership including day to day staff management, sickness management, clinical supervision, roster and workforce planning support.
  • Manage a clinical caseload and support with the caseload management of all patients requiring occupational therapy assessment, treatment and support within the service.
  • Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure Occupational Therapy is promoted within direct patient care and wider clinical services.
  • Ensure all patient care is delivered in line with best practice and relevant clinical guidelines, supporting all Occupational Therapy staff members to deliver excellence in neuroscience
