Job summary

Skilled craftsperson will be employed on work appropriate to their specialist skills.

They will have the ability to fulfil their duties with a total commitment to versatility and will be suitably trained to acquire elements of other skills, as required, reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply their abilities, where required.

The person will carry out a range of maintenance duties and to undertake planned preventativemaintenanceand repairs as required,

The person will need an electrical background and relevant qualifications working in line with but not limited to Electricity at Work Act 1989, HTM 06-02, BS 7671.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for testing, maintenance and fault finding on all electrical engineering plant, equipment and services including but not limited to:
    • Electrical distribution,
    • Lighting installations,
    • Fire detection and suppression systems,
    • Water pumping and pressure boosting,
    • Ventilation and air conditioning plant,
    • Medical vacuum and compressed air plants,
    • Standby generator installations,
    • Nurse call systems,
    • Security systems
    • UPS systems
    • CCTV systems
    • Data and communication systems

Undertake fault finding on complex electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, pumping & pressure boosting, air conditioning, medical gas, standby generator, nurse call, security, UPS, CCTV, data, communications or other critical systems and equipment.

To carry out commissioning testing of new equipment and services, routine testing of existing assets and general inspections when required, all in accordance with British Standards, Health Technical Memoranda, manufacturer's instructions and other national Codes of Practice.

Use of calibrated precision test and measuring instrumentation to establish plant and equipment operating parameters and records results of same on test certificates.

Interprets and follows detailed electrical circuit drawings and specifications for a range of building services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of general education, GCSE Maths & English or equivalent
  • Accredited recognised apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering/Installation (NVQ Level 3)

Desirable

  • Health and safety qualification
  • Working at heights Certificate
  • 18th Edition Certificate.
  • Competent Person for Low Voltage.
  • HNC or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Fault finding skills. Able to diagnose faults and effect repairs to electrical/mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faults in basic electrical systems i.e. fire doors, lighting circuits, power circuits.
