Support the delivery of a safe and effective clinical trials dispensing service following the principles of good clinical practice (GCP), under the supervision of a senior Clinical Trials TechnicianSupporting service provision through the receiving, dispensing, returning and destruction of medicines for use in clinical and the maintenance of accurate accountability records for these tasks.Work as key member of a small pharmacy trials team to identify and deliver improvements in pharmacy services.
The Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting the safe and effective delivery of clinical trials pharmacy services within the Acute Care Division.
Main duties of the job
Working under the supervision of senior pharmacy staff, the post holder ensures that investigational medicinal products (IMPs) and non-investigational medicinal products (nIMPs) are received, stored, dispensed, returned and destroyed in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Trust policies.
As a key member of the clinical trials pharmacy team, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate drug accountability records, preparing documentation and labels using pharmacy computer systems, and ensuring full audit trails in line with regulatory and data protection requirements. The role involves dispensing oral and parenteral medicines for patients participating in clinical trials, including cytotoxic drugs, intravenous additives and monoclonal antibodies, using aseptic techniques and specialist equipment such as isolators. Accuracy, attention to detail and sustained concentration are essential, as the post holder undertakes cross-checking of prescriptions, worksheets and drug volumes to ensure patient safety.
The role requires effective communication with pharmacists, doctors, nurses, research staff and external research organisations, providing routine information within defined limits and escalating complex issues to pharmacists when required. You will also support training of new staff and contributes to service improvement, including developing procedures for new clinical trials.
