Assistant Practitioner PET-CT

Job summary

Due to service expansion we are looking for applicants who demonstrate commitment to our Trust values. TheNuclear Medicine department at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Wirral is busy and dynamic, and houses a Siemens Symbia Intevo Gamma Camera with SPECT-CT, carrying out a wide variety of examinations. We also provide a busy Radium therapy service. Our PET-CT service is delivered using a Siemens Biograph mCT flow PET-CT scanner.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool site houses a digital Siemens Biograph Vision and also provides Radium therapy service.

We work collaboratively with Alliance Medical in providing the PET-CT service as part of the NHSE National Contract. We also carry out non-contract work such as scanning to aid with radiotherapy planning and clinical trials.

You would be required to work flexibly with the department moving towards extended days and Saturday working in PET-CT as the service develops, and supporting CCC-L and CCC-W.

Applicants without an Assistant Practitioner qualification will be considered for a band 3 role and uplifted upon completion.

Main duties of the job

Select appropriate existing acquisition protocols and carry our specialist imaging procedures under supervision, in line with the Assistant Practitioner Scope of Practice.

Prepare daily patient lists and prepare the order of radiopharmaceuticals.

Perform equipment quality control.

Receipt and prepare radiopharmaceuticals for administration.

Prepare the patients for the examination, including explaining the procedure, cannulation and blood glucose measurement, answering queries, assisting with personal care as required and advising on basic radiation protection measures.

Dispense individual patient doses.

Assisting with organising and managing the workflow in the department in collaboration with the radiographic team.

To assist the Clinical Specialist in training of rotational B3 Assistants.

Keep accurate records of all procedures (including use of CRIS, RIS, PACS, Meditech, PrOFS, etc.)

Assist the housekeeping ordering of consumables, recording and managing fault repairs, etc.

Knowledge and Expertise
