This role is open to the Cornwall Healthcare community only.
To provide a high standard Physiotherapy service for elective orthopaedics patients.
Tomaintain an agreed case load within in the clinical specialism, performing advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations.To formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, as an autonomous practitioner.
To undertake line manager duties for the team.
To work alongside the AHP Urgent Care Manager, Therapy Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics, SMH Team Lead Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapy Professional Lead, in planning, co-coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.
To be instrumental in the on-going development of services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions.
To carry out any special duties associated with the post (eg overseeing recruitment to Band 5/6 rotation, representing the therapy service at various forums).
Main duties of the job
Management and Personal Development
Operational Supervision and appraisal of Band 6 staff in team, and general management of a team of staff, bands 3 to 6 at both St Michael's Hospital and St Austell Surgical Hub.
Sickness absence management.
Early stages of disciplinary and capability with support of HR and Therapy Lead.
Health and Safety of team/therapy environments.
Ensuring clinical supervision is carried out within the team.
Study leave requests co-ordination and first level authorisation.
Recruitment: responsibility for job descriptions and ads, interviewing and informing Therapy Lead of details of appointments.
Appropriate response and feedback to incidents.
Maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
Clinical Activities
Achieve clinical competencies in line with requirements of the specialism.
Ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients and support staff to do likewise.
Undertake specialist assessment of patients with complex presentation as an autonomous practitioner.
Use advanced clinical reasoning skills and expertise to form accurate diagnosis, formulate and deliver individual therapy treatment plans.
To support the facilitation of student placements within the department and provide support to clinical educators within the team.
