Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated project manager, this role would suit applicants who are or have previously worked within cancer services and aware of the challenges and requirements within the service. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the senior Headland Unit nursing and management team and the wider organisation including medical staff, pharmacy staff and external organisations providing care for cancer patients.

The scope of the project is centred on the patient pathway from decision of treatment with SACT through to completion of treatment including supporting therapies delivered in primary care. This will include a review of activities within the care group and wider organisation to increase capacity and efficiency of the Headland Unit.

This post will directly control with support a number of work streams, some may be complex and large-scale involving larger multi-disciplinary teams. This role will include engaging with all stakeholders in process mapping, planning and implementing required improvements and developments to ensure safe and timely pathways are maintained. The Headland Unit is the only outpatient systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) unit in Cornwall and is a fast paced clinical environment.

This most will initially be supported for 3 months by the QI hub. Informal visits and discussions are actively encouraged.

Main duties of the job

To support the Headland Unit and Cancer Services as a whole in effectively identifying, scoping and implementing areas for improvement in accommodating the increasing number of patients requiring treatment.

To support the Cancer Services to embed change as a result of the programme.

To support Cancer Services in facilitating service changes in outpatients, using expertise across the trust and in primary care where care is provided to help inform change.

To co-ordinate and to optimise patient appointments and time spent within the department

To support the delivery of new ways of working and support and engage staff.

To use project management skills to implement change.

To establish and maintain strong and effective communication links across cancer services to enable delivery of the programme.

To work collaboratively with the QI hub and engage with support offered.

To utilise analytical, persuasive and negotiation skills in order to support the change and enable resolution of complex operational issues relating to planned care.

To ensure all changes made are in line with the key aims and requirements identified, adapting where necessary.
