Job summary

The organisation is currently rolling out a new LIMS system and have a number of Clinic Decision Support projects. This post will support both projects and duty biochemist roles to ensure timely, safe, and effective delivery.

To assist the Consultant in Clinical Biochemistry and Consultant Biochemist to provide a comprehensive Scientific and Clinical Advisory Service for the Clinical Chemistry Department of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, covering both laboratory sites of Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) and West Cornwall Hospital. The main functions are to provide expert scientific input and clinical leadership within the Department. The role includes clinical liaison, complex and specialised interpretation and advice to medical and other healthcare professionals in the whole Cornwall Health Community, contributing to the clinical management of patients.

Main duties of the job

To maintain an area of highly specialised knowledge and take responsibility for provision of teaching, scientific and clinical services in that area.

To be involved in the development and implementation of recent advances in Clinical Chemistry to help ensure that the department provides a service that maintains current good practice.

To participate in the Duty biochemist rota, offering clinical advice and review of clinical chemistry results. Integral to this is role is familiarity with the LIMS system. Our LIMS is currently provided by CliniSys but we will be moving eminently to Cirdan Ultra.

To be involved in over viewing the clinical aspects of the departmental quality performance.

This is a demanding role requiring advanced knowledge, interpretative skills and the ability to concentrate and review large numbers of computerised laboratory results for long periods of time whilst handling enquiries from users of the service. It also requires an ability to work under pressure and to handle complaints.
