Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic acute general paediatric team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The successful applicant will work with the senior medical and nursing team in delivery of acute/urgent care to unwell children admitted from across Cornwall. They will help lead the ongoing evolution of our forward-thinking Paediatric Assessment Unit and its expanding Advanced Practitioner Team.

Royal Cornwall Hospital is the only Secondary Care facility in the county. We see a huge range of paediatric presentations and acuity. This is a full time, permanent post

Main duties of the job

The main focus of this position will be to provide urgent care to children referred to our Paediatric Assessment Unit and to be a member of Paediatric Emergency Response Team within the hospital. As part of the multi-disciplinary team, and under the supervision of a consultant paediatrician the post-holder will utilise their specialist knowledge and skills to:

Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions within the parameters of local protocols

Undertake relevant clinical examination as indicated by the patient's condition; analysing clinical signs and investigating results to support diagnosis and initiating any treatment as required

Perform delegated clinical interventions against specialty protocol incorporating appropriate history and request investigations such as blood, urine and other laboratory tests, electrocardiographs (ECGs), ultrasound scans, x-rays in accordance with IR(ME)R regulations and as local policy allows

Undertake independent prescribing as part of clinical role and maintain prescribing competence as per Trust Non-Medical Prescribing Guidelines.
