Job summary

This integral position is part of the senior leadership team within the Care Group and works under the direction of the Care Group Senior Leadership Team with professional accountability to the Chief Nurse. The main purpose of the role is to provide leadership, guidance and support to all nursing and midwifery staff within maternity and neonatal services. The post holder will lead the quality governance, risk management and patient experience for Maternity ensuring safe effective care is consistently delivered.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is accountable for ensuring the appropriate management and leadership of the midwifery teams, holding Deputy Head of Midwifery, Consultant midwife, Matrons, specialist nurses, ward and department leaders as well as clinical practitioners to account to ensure that organisational performance and national standards and quality indicators are monitored and appropriate action is taken according to results.

This role encompasses the development of services through the implementation of innovative strategies to ensure an empowered workforce at all levels that is fit for purpose and equipped to deliver excellence in care standards, including securing the workforce for the future

Essential

  • Registered midwife with the NMC with evidence of personal and professional commitment to CPD in line with revalidation requirements
  • Demonstratable up to date clinical expertise and expert proven knowledge of maternity services
  • Educated to a Masters Level in healthcare related subject or holds a degree with a deadline for completion of further studies at Masters level
  • Holds or willing to work towards a recognised management qualification and has undertaken substantial leadership development

Experience

Essential

  • A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment
  • Experience in a senior midwifery leadership position at a band 8a or above
  • Demonstration and evidence of personal professional development

Desirable

  • Experience of leading strategic/cross Trust changes
  • Experience in preparing Business Cases
  • Experience of working at strategic or regional levels
  • Experience or presenting to Trust Board
