We have opportunities for developmental progression within Transitional Care on the Post natal maternity ward at RCHT Truro.

If you have experience working with families caring for their babies and a passion for high standards of family integrated care, an innovative and progressive attitude this could be the position for you.

The Transitional Care Unit provides care for newborn babies who are medically stable but require additional observation, treatment and support. The role of the Transitional Care Nursery Nurse is to support the families to care for their babies and help them to prepare for going home.

This post progresses from Band 3 to Band 4 following completion of the Neonatal Foundation programme and associated specialist practical competencies.

Main duties of the job

Delivering excellent standards of safe, compassionate care, recognising and incorporating the specific needs of patients.

Supporting registered nurses to undertake assessment, planning and delivery of care.Engaging and interacting with infants and families to include them in decision making and care planning.

Promoting the safety and wellbeing of infants and families and visitors.

Demonstrate an understanding of, assess, evaluate care in relation to infant hygiene, nutritional care, thermoregulatory care, and monitoring.

Support and assist mothers in breast-feeding/expressing using training and knowledge of infant feeding.

Care for infants receiving specialist monitoring, recording of observations and correct use of equipment, includingneonatal abstinence syndrome.

Participate in wards rounds.

Act as an advocate, liaise, report and document any relevant nursing or social issues to the registered nurse.

Demonstrate a good understanding and practice of Child Protection including legislation and procedures and attend social care meetings as required.

Engage and interact effectively with families/carers, encouraging them to be actively involved in planning and delivering care to their infant.

Take a role in care planning, family education and preparation for discharge.

Undertake parent IBLS training and facilitate training families BLS prior to discharge of their baby.
