Job summary

Royal Cornwall Hospital are seeking applications for part of an exciting initiative to standardise training for breast clinicians across the UK.

You will have 18 months or less experience (whole time equivalent) in Radiology or Breast Surgery (not including Foundation modules) by time of start date

12 months medical experience after full GMC registration (or equivalent post licensing experience)

The role encompasses clinical and breast imaging services, providing a holistic approach to all aspects of breast disease diagnosis and management. The post offers comprehensive training in breast radiology, clinical skills and breast cancer risk analysis, enabling candidates to become independent breast specialists and lead family history clinics upon completion of the 3 year programme.

The Credential in Breast Disease Management is supported by Health Education England (HEE) and was developed by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), the Association of Breast Clinicians (ABC) and the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) in 2019. Main duties of the job

During this 3-year WTE training programme the trainees will develop all the necessary knowledge and skills to equip them to offer much-needed clinical and imaging expertise in symptomatic and screening services and family history breast clinics. These posts are not designed for established breast clinicians or those wishing to pursue a surgical career.

The minimum entry criteria include evidence of Foundation competences or equivalent within the last 3.5 years, but we would welcome applicants with wider experience from other specialties or general practice. For full entry and selection criteria, please see the person specification.

To complete the training, this is a three year contract ideally on a full time basis. Applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time are welcomed but would need to complete the full time equivalent duration and be able to work at least three days per week (i.e. 0.6WTE).

Upon successful completion, the training will lead to the award of a certified credential in breast disease management, enabling candidates to apply for a permanent position as a Breast Clinicians it is not a consultant radiologist qualification.
