Job summary

The successful candidate will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Bone densitometry service (DEXA), assisting in the smooth running of DEXA and FLS (Fracture Liaison Service) patients by performing specialised tasks. The post holder will also be expected to provide support to the multidisciplinary team across the wider clinical imaging service to deliver high standards of patient care whenever required.

This post is based at Royal Cornwall Hospital but there may be requirements to work at other sites.

Main duties of the job

A member of the DEXA team, helping to provide high standards of care.

Comply with local and Trust procedures to ensure health and safety in the workplace.

Undertake clinical duties to support pre, peri and post procedural care.

Support the practitioners in managing clinical workflow through the service.

Undertake general administrative and clerical duties as required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Work at all times within the Trust policies and statutory legislation and manual handling procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained through professional attendance on patients or through clinical access.

Acquire knowledge of Trust and Departmental Policies

Use own knowledge and skills to ensure safety of oneself and others through training and adherence to protocols.

Be able to use a keyboard and have basic IT skills.

After appropriate training be able to use the radiology systems (e.g. CRIS/PACS) to document clinical care, book patients in or amend appointments.

Experience of working with the general public.

Be active in enhancing own knowledge base, the post holder is expected to undertake continual development.

KEY RESULT AREAS

Promote a patient-focussed service in a caring environment and ensure collaborative working relationships with all other departments.

Under the direction of Osteoporosis Lead Specialist, FLS Teams Lead and DEXA team ensure a smooth workflow with effective communication.

Assist team members with manual handling using appropriate and safe technique.

Use communication skills to provide accurate and clear information regarding DEXA scanning.

Prepare the patient when required for DEXA scanning.

Ensure the clinical environment is fully prepared for procedures including the selection of medical devices, cleanliness, and immobilisation equipment.

Ensure medical devices are ready for use.

Check and maintain the stock levels of consumables and linen in each room. Report the need for re-orders.

Support DEXA operators with positioning of patients for scans once fully trained.

Acting as a chaperone & provide support to the practitioner during scans.

Provide patient support throughout appointment.

Report any change in patient condition or any problem or hazard within the department to the Practitioner in charge.

The post holder is expected to document information as part of the patient record or where appropriate contribute alongside the DEXA practitioner.

Have good IT knowledge of the Radiology Information System (CRIS), booking in patients, confirming patient details, inputting information etc.

Provide clerical assistance as required including taking and delivering messages to the appropriate team/ colleagues.

Always behave in a professional manner in attitude, neatness of appearance, punctuality, and competence, thereby upholding the reputation of the department and the hospital.

Be flexible in shift patterns, working hours, days and location.

Willing to work across all areas of clinical imaging whenever necessary.
