Job summary

Applications are welcome for the post of Orthodontic Specialist. The successful candidates will work alongside Consultants, Senior Registrars and Junior doctors in the Oral & Maxillofacial Unit. This post attracts a signing on bonus of 30% of your basic salary

A wide range of complex orthodontic treatments are carried out at RCH. This includes the treatment of patients with severe malocclusions, those who have difficult management problems and medically compromised patients. There has been an increase in the number patients with complex problems requiring interdisciplinary treatment. Treatment planning and supervision for patients with moderate malocclusions is also an integral part of the consultant service provided. Supervising Orthodontic Therapists will be part of the allotted role.

Peninsula Dental School: Opportunities exist to become involved with the teaching and training of undergraduate dental students at the Truro Dental Education Facility. This is a 36 chair training base for the Peninsula Dental School.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Orthodontics.
  • Undertake orthodontic treatment independently as a specialist and under the guidance of the orthodontic consultant(s), where required
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Orthodontic team.
  • Teaching and training of junior staff, dental students
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical Governance and Audit.
  • To attend meetings and MDTs as appropriate.
  • Fulfill duties of specified timetable

Qualifications

Essential

  • A full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Dental Council;
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 years' dental work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary dental qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other dental grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
  • GDC Specialist register for Orthdontics
  • MOrth or equivalent (evidence that has been obtained within 3 months of interview)
  • Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework

Desirable

  • FDS of MFDS or equivalent
