Junior Clinical Fellow - Urology
The post provides training opportunities in operating theatre inpatient and daycase, diagnostics and outpatient clinics, also management of emergencies and elective inpatients. The post will be tailored to the experience and training of the appointee. From an educational perspective, there will be opportunities in running supervised audits, presentations and teaching. Publication and presentation of work at international and national meetings is encouraged
The Urology department comprises 8 full time and 1 part time consultant, Urology ST registrars, Senior clinical fellows, one junior clinical fellow, one surgical education fellow, one CT, one FY2 and three FY1 supported by a number of specialist nurses and cancer nurse specialists. Diagnostic and local anaesthetic treatment services are within the on site dedicated urology diagnostic and treatment unit, including flexible cystoscopy, urodynamics, TULA and LATP.
The department provides subspecialist work in laparoscopic (transperitoneal and retroperitoneal) surgery, endourology including PCNL and HoLEP, paediatric urology and andrology. A busy unit covering a population of 500 000 which can double at peak holiday seasons. We have a high throughput of patients and offer excellent training opportunities.
You will be expected to have completed basic surgical training (FRCS or MRCS) and have an interest in pursuing a career in Urology. Previous experience in Urology is essential.
Main duties of the job
Clinical work at level CT/ST1 or ST3 depending on experience . Depending upon specialty you will also participate in an out of hour's rota remunerated in line with the 2016 Junior Doctors Contract.
- Assessment & management of in-patients.
- Assessment & management of acute admissions.
- Attend ward rounds
- Attend multi-disciplinary ward meetings.
- Attend out-patients (if appropriate) and assist with in-patient management.
- Assessment of patients in the Emergency Department.
- Fulfil the duties of the weekly timetable including out of hours responsibilities.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of clinical services.
- Share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the patients.
- Have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
- Actively participate in departmental & Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance & Audit.
- Attend meetings as appropriate.

This post will provide the opportunity to develop non-clinical skills and experience and to undertake experience in education, research or quality improvement.
