Job summary
An enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist is required to work at The Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro. The successful candidate will offer a service to the Emergency department and Acute Medical units within an acute hospital seeing a range of adult patients presenting with communication and swallowing problems.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have experience working with adult patients across a range of settings. The acute department is a small and friendly service which works across a range of specialties and has highly specialist staff in dysphagia, head and neck oncology, oncology and stroke. Independent practice in dysphagia and acute communication difficulties is required.
The department is well respected within the hospital. It offers a supportive environment to staff and opportunities to develop interests. Staff contribute to the Clinical Governance programme and undertake relevant clinical, departmental and service audits. The service has regular team and CPD meetings

- Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Speech and Language Therapist

- A wide range of post registration Speech and Language Therapy experience including significant delivery of services for complex inpatients
- Experience of working in an acute setting
- Good understanding of relevant clinical guidelines
- Experience of working in an acute, hospital based setting, including working within an MDT
- Presentations to a range of groups
- Teaching/training of staff or students
- Supervision of more junior staff, assistants and/students
- Computer literate, to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office

- Experience of carrying out videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing
