Job summary

Exciting opportunity to complete our expansion of the Community Child Health Team in Cornwall.

We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor who will be the final addition to our workforce, and who is interested in taking forward our close links with the medical school.

We need a community paediatrician to work with a speciality doctor covering the NE of the county who will also take the lead in diagnostic meetings in early years ASD assessments in the area.

You will become a valued member of our team of 8 Consultants and 6 SAS grade doctors who work closely together to see children throughout Cornwall. With the rural area we have, we continue to work on a 'patch' basis with a speciality doctor and a consultant in each patch.

We work closely, and share training with our general paediatric colleagues and are looking forward to the building of our State of the Art Womens' and Children Hospital in the near future.

We invite applicants with specific SPINS / interests in different areas to build and develop our service for the future.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Community Child Health team taking consultant responsibility for children with Neurodisability in the North East of Cornwall (Bodmin to Bude). In addition there is the opportunity to further develop our service. Once the post holder is appointed, there will be opportunity to revise job planning as part of ongoing service reorganisation.

The post includes a commitment to the Child Protection Day and On call rota (extended hours commitment 0700-1900). There is a dedicated child protection examination suite with and there is close working with the Regional SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre). There is no commitment to the acute on-call rota.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / EU equivalent certification at the time of interview.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration, Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
  • CESR or European Community Rights
  • An appropriate higher paediatric qualfication

Desirable

  • Completed GRID training in Community Paediatrics and appropriate CCT
  • Epilepsy PET training 1,2 and 3

Experience

Essential

  • Teaching - Medical students, junior doctors, peers and MDT
  • Experienced in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance and able to demonstrate this is embedded in clinical practice

Practical and intellectual Skills

Essential

  • Strong Clinical and personal credibility with significant clinical experience/training in community Paediatrics
  • Experience and recognised training in Safeguarding.
  • Experience in assessing, formulating opinions and report writing to support child protection and working with wider safeguarding teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent IT Skills
  • Conceptual and analytical Skills
  • Speaks fluent Englist to at least I.E.L.R.S level 7.5

  • Knoweldge and experience of social paediatrics
  • Specific experience or national accreditation in Neurodisability and Epilesy
