Job summary

We are looking for an ambitious and higher performing Finance Manager to provide finance leadership and expert advice within the Trust. This is a generic job role across the finance sections of financial management, costing, income, and capital as we rotate staff between these areas, so we welcome people with experience of any of these areas to apply.

With strong leadership and management skills, you will be an important part of a committed and high performing finance team, as well as partnering with clinical and operational colleagues.

You will bring excellent financial management skills and be able to work with complex systems. With strong leadership and management skills, you will have the ability to anticipate problems and make effective decisions.

We have a fantastic variety of work underway at our hospital and are building relationships within the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Board. For the right candidate this job will be both professionally rewarding and provide you with an excellent workplace experience. Our finance department is One NHS Finance Level 2 Accredited, and we will want the successful candidate to help us on our journey to Level 3 accreditation.

This is a full-time post of 37.5 hours per week but there may be part-time opportunities available.

Main duties of the job

To fulfil this demanding role, we require an ambitious and proactive individual with excellent communications skills and proven ability to build successful partnerships with key stakeholders including clinical leaders. The ability to motivate, develop and lead a team is key as well as influence peers and colleagues to ensure they understand, utilise, and promote data to make informed decisions.

The Finance Manager role is a generic role and could be required to undertake several roles within the Financial Management section including:

  • Leading the Financial Management of Care Groups or Corporate Departments, including overseeing the financial support for savings development and delivery at a Care Group, Corporate Department or Trust level. This is the initial expectation for this post holder.
  • Leading on Income and Contracting for the Trust.
  • Leading on Capital and Business Case Development.
  • Supporting the introduction and development of financial system.

New starters have been mostly office based for the first three months as this seems to be the most effective way to provide support, but this will be dependent on the role and your circumstances.

Ensure monthly finance information is produced by the team in a timely fashion to feed board reporting and performance reviews. Identify early and follow up actions to address financial challenges and support the Trust to achieve its financial position.
