Specialist Static Physiotherapist (Oncology & Haematology, Cardiac Investigation Unit): 37.5 hours per week
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Specialist Physiotherapist to join our friendly, busy therapy service at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust within the Acute Medical and Eldercare Team.
We are a proactive team, focused on service development, ongoing education, and training. We offer opportunities to engage in research, training, coaching and career development with links to the local higher education institutions, and have also developed local learning opportunities.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a static specialist Physiotherapy post within the Acute Medical and Eldercare Team here at RCHT working on our Oncology Ward and the Cardiac Investigation Unit.
There is a large opportunity for service development within this role as a new static post within our recently refurbished oncology ward. It is also is an exciting time for our organisation, as we have received substantial investment to further develop our services. We are looking for a team member who can provide decisive and effective Physiotherapy input, who is motivated to develop the service, and facilitate discharges and patient flow.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard Physiotherapy service to patients at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust working as an autonomous practitioner.
Maintain up to date and accurate records
Provide supervision and support to junior staff as well as generic support workers and therapy technicians.
Support with education to the wider acute medical team and participate in appropriate audit and service development projects.
To attend clinical level discussions / meetings relating to your area of work as delegated by your Clinical Team Lead
To work flexibly across 7 days, to include on call and weekend shifts.

The Acute Medical and Eldercare Team provide therapy services across the medical wards and the front door service (Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, Frailty & SDEC Unit). We have a dynamic, close working multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists, supported by two Clinical Lead Physiotherapists and the Acute Medical Therapy Lead.
The role will be based predominantly on the oncology ward and the Cardiac Investigation Unit providing specialist Physiotherapy services to patients with a range of oncological and haematological as well as cardiac presentations. The post holder will be expected to cross cover to other medical wards and our front door service, to support with flow and the caseload across the wider team, The post holder will also need to contribute to weekend and on call duties to aid in the delivery of our 7 day service.

To comply with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health Professions Council codes of ethics and rules of professional conduct.
To provide Specialist Physiotherapy assessment and treatments to patients with a range of presentations based current guidelines and recommendations. The post holder will be required to work across the acute setting as delegated by the Clinical Lead. Your role will be to provide evidence based interventions / recommendations for onward care including, bedded care, community hospitals and community services. This will involve assessment and treatment of patients with complex and/or chronic presentations.
To work closely with AHP's to deliver holistic assessments and deliver rehabilitation to patients who have a diagnosis of cancer and may be terminally ill and / or approaching end of life.
Facilitate conversations around end of life care and advanced care planning and co-ordinate patient care that is patient centred
To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and be active in applying to your work situation, including maintaining own continuous professional development (CPD) up to date national guidelines and developments.
To maintain clinical competence and be an active member of the in-service training programme by attending and delivering teaching sessions. To work with your Band 7 in contributing to Multi-professional education.
To participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraise and appraiser for more junior staff.
To be actively involved in the collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department. To actively be involved in department audits and service development programmes.
To comply with the departmental and organisational policies.
To undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Professional Leads.
