Job summary

A recent retirement and re-structure of our domestic services department at the RCH has identified a need for 2 x Domestic Services Supervisors:

  • 1 x 25 hours per week (15:00-20:00 Sat-Wed)
  • 1 x 15 hours per week (07:00-15:00 Sat/Sun)

Week-end enhanced rates apply:

  • £15.75 per hour Saturdays
  • £19.72 per hour Sundays

Applicants will assist in the provision and maintenance of a high quality, specialised cleaning service to both ward and departmental areas within the main Truro site.

This is a key post vital in adherence to the Trusts hygiene and control of infection measures and guidelines

Main duties of the job

To provide effective supervision and support to the domestic staff within Domestic Services and to be responsible for co-ordination of duties throughout the Department within an allocated area. To organise the allocation of staff within the Department, so that all duties are covered by the flexible use of staff to ensure the smooth running of the service.

To be instrumental in the development of quality initiatives and in ensuring good cleaning service and the adherence to Trust policies and procedures with particular reference to the Trust's Control of Infection policies and National Standards. This post is a key link between the staff and management for the further development of the service for both patients and staff.

To liaise directly with hospital ward personnel and patients as part of the Department's quality initiatives.

  • Previous facilities and/or cleaning experience.
  • Internal audit/monitoring knowledge.

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • To provide effective leadership in the achievement of quality support services.
  • Monitor the quality of the cleaning produced using the in-house monitoring procedure and achieve personal monitoring targets as set by the Domestic Services management team.
  • Achieve and exceed quality level targets for customer satisfaction and cleaning quality as set by the Domestic Services management team.
  • Conduct daily ward/department visits to assess first-hand standard of cleaning levels and to gain an insight into the perception of the service of users.
  • Collate and conduct corrective actions following stakeholder feedback.
  • In conjunction with the Domestic Services management team, ensure cleaning practices and procedures are adhered to correctly when undertaking cleaning tasks.
  • To ensure that the cleaning products and material items are stored correctly and that there is an appropriate amount available for staff to carry out their duties.
  • Keep within set targets in the Department and conform to control of infection guidelines.
  • To ensure that all staff follow Health and Safety guidelines as laid down in the Trust Health and Safety Policy and the NHS cleaning manual.
  • To ensure that all staff follow all policies and procedures for the cleaning service.
  • To carry out appropriate risk assessment of their work area, making sure staff are aware and abide by these practices.
  • To follow procedures for incidences such as fire, security accidents and other areas associated with Health and Safety.
  • Analyse service requirements and make recommendations relating to the development of the Domestic Cleaning Service.
  • To drive performance within the team and deliver a great experience for all stakeholders.
  • Manage the services to ensure that all safety procedures are carried out in accordance with the Trusts Policies and current legislation.
  • It is the responsibility of the post holder to contribute positively to the attainment of quality targets set within the department.
  • Ensure self and relevant team members are up to date and competent in relation to statutory, mandatory and job specific training.
  • Keep up to date with and cascade the latest safety information to relevant staff.

  • To identify any shortfall in the skill base of staff and ensure that standards are maintained through follow up training.
