Job summary

We are currently looking for a SSD Supervisor to work in our busy Sterile Services Department. The department provides an important service within the Hospital, decontaminating and sterilizing surgical instruments for the Operating Theatres/Wards, Departments and external customers. The department is fully accredited to European Standards and works within a Quality System. The department has various shifts, which cover the 24-hour day.

Main duties of the job

To supervise/manage technicians in all functions within the decontamination process of reusable medical devices, to ensure the team objectives are achieved in providing disinfected/sterilized reusable medical devices for Operating Theatres, Wards, Clinics, External Customers and Endoscopy Departments across Cornwall & the Isle of Scilly.

To perform a full range of decontamination duties and be accountable as the duty supervisor.

To assist with the development of the department's standard operating procedures and work instructions in accordance with quality management systems and ensure staff comply with them.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of a team of supervisors supporting the management team, supervising a team of Technicians. Previous experience of decontamination, sterile services and managing a team will be essential.

This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week, working predominantly Monday to Friday, you will be required to work on various shifts covering days, evenings, nights, weekends, Bank Holidays and on-call.

Performs a range of routine and non-routine tasks of testing different types of decontamination/medical devices using chemical, electronic test indicators and visual.

Also required to undertake weekly testing of decontamination equipment.

Operate the various decontamination electronic systems for product release, validation, locating and non-conforming of medical devices.

Supervises, organises and allocates work and /or train less experienced/qualified staff.

Plan your own workload and work with minimal managerial direction.

  • Extensive experience in working in the decontamination of reusable medical devices
  • Experience of effective communication skills when dealing with staff and Service User /Customers
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Experience of Supervising Staff
  • Experience of managing performance to achieve delivery targets

Desirable

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in/alongside a clinical team.
