Job summary
We are a busy Operating Theatre and provide care for patients undergoing treatment from the following specialities: General Surgery, Vascular, Emergency Service, ENT, Paediatrics, Urology, Facial Maxillary, Orthopaedics and Gynaecology.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Get Into Programme. We are looking for a person to join our Team in Theatres and work cross-site for STSFT.
The Programme is a 24-month advanced apprenticeship which is subject to regular reviews to demonstrate progress. You will commence on Annex 21 of the salary stated to support the development in the role and required to complete L3 Senior Healthcare Support Standard over the period of the Apprenticeship. Maths and English Language at Level 2 (GCSE Minimum Grade C/4) is essential. Following the successful completion of the Programme you will move into a substantive position and have the opportunity to apply for the Operating Department Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship.
Working as a Team Member within a very busy environment. Tasks involve the direct/indirect care of patients peri-operatively. Ensuring a safe environment for patients. Cleaning to a high standard. Setting and stocking of Theatres for effective running of operating lists.

Main duties of the job
You will be supported and supervised by highly-trained Theatre staff to ensure smooth running of the area you work in.
If you are successful in obtaining a position with us as a Theatre Support Worker, you will be required to take part in shift patterns to meet the needs of the Service.
Key requirements:
Maths & English Language GCSE minimum C/4 Grade.
Basic understanding of Health and Safety requirements in a patient environment
General understanding of confidentiality in the healthcare setting
Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing
Ability to communicate health-related information in an understandable way to patients and Mutli-Disciplinary Team
Basic skills of empathy and reassurance
Basic IT skills
Flexible and adaptable to change in accordance with patient needs and needs of the Service.
Committed to behaving in a professional manner to present caring image to patients.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Ability to work effectively in the MDT.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Able to understand instructions and carry out duties in accordance with them.
Friendly and approachable.
