Job summary
We have the opportunity to offer this role with
an exciting mix of clinical educational activity, self-development and Critical
Care resident service provision.
Approximately fifty percent of time will be spent developing an
educational program and activities for our new cohort of Trainee Advanced
Critical Care Practitioners. This
project will sow the seeds for an ongoing educational program for ACCPs,
doctors and nurses within our Critical Care units. There will be ample provision of self-development
opportunities and CV-building; including the engagement with critical care
research, with the possibility to become an Associate-PI in one of our NIHR
Portfolio trials. The remaining fifty
percent of the time will spent developing critical care skills and contributing
to the critical care resident rotas. The Post is likely to entail working cross-site, between our two Critical Care
Units (Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District General). We would also encourage you to
consider obtaining a formal educational qualification such as PG Cert in Academic
Practice or PG Cert Med Ed.
Main duties of the job
The Post would be ideally suited to those with an enthusiasm for education and with
a drive to develop modern educational strategies including simulation and
digital media. The Post would also suit
a candidate who would like to develop their critical care skills or is looking
for CV-building opportunity with a view to re-entering formal Intensive Care or
Anaesthesia training. This Post is
ideally suited for those who have completed CT2 or CT3 in Anaesthesia or
Intensive Care Medicine.
South
Tyneside and Sunderland is a large Acute NHS Trust consisting of two main and
two smaller hospital sites. The Critical Care footprint (22 beds) is spread
across two Critical Care Units, namely Sunderland Royal Integrated Critical
Care Unit (ICCU) and South Tyneside Intensive Care Unit. Combined, these Units receive approximately
1000 admissions per year, with an unselected take of patients from the
Emergency Department, Surgical and Medical wards.
The
Critical Care and Anaesthesia Department is large, dynamic and friendly with a
strong emphasis on educational attainment and career development.

will have a designated Educational Supervisor during your appointment to
oversee educational progress.
