Job summary

We are excited to recruit a new member to our intensive care and respiratory medicine consultant teams. The post offers opportunities to work at the interface between these areas and to improve patient experience and outcome. Both departments thrive in a supportive team environment, with opportunities to develop not just clinical interests but also interests in medical leadership, undergraduate and postgraduate education and clinical research. The clinical facilities are world leading, with 24 single occupancy rooms across our two sites; a clinically led design centred around infection control and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital, but the postholder will work (including out of hours) both on this site and in South Tyneside District Hospital. All out of hours activity will be in critical care medicine, with a daytime commitment of approximately 10 weeks p.a. Respiratory duties will depend in part on the interests of the successful applicant and the needs of the service.
