Job summary

The Division of Theatres and Critical Care are seeking to Appoint a motivated individual to the role of Sterile Services Operative within Sterile Services.

Reporting to the Sterile Services Manager, you will provide high-quality decontamination services to the Trust's operating theatres, wards, departments, and off-site clinics. The Department cleans, decontaminates, inspects, packs and sterilises over 170,000 reusable surgical trays per year. We are looking for a committed person who can work both as an individual and as part of a team with a flexible approach to duties. You will have knowledge of infection control practices and procedures, a strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organisational and communication skills are also essential.

Previous experience in a sterile services or similar healthcare setting is advantageous, however, comprehensive training and professional development opportunities will be provided by the Educational Lead, Quality Training & Support Managers and Sterile Services Manager.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit two full-time Sterile Services Operatives to join our team in the Sterile Services Department. This is a busy unit based at Sunderland Royal Hospital and is in close proximity to the Operating Theatres.

You will be required to undertake tasks associated with the cleaning, disassembly, checking, packing, sterilisation, and movement of surgical instruments to ensure the safe reprocessing and distribution of products for use in theatres and other clinical departments.

You will follow written instructions, use specialist machinery and electronic tracking systems in the accordance with departmental guidelines and quality management systems. You will comply with the requirements of the quality systems, as stated in ISO 13485:2016, medical device regulations plus all other relevant standards.

You must be willing to work flexibly within the operating hours of the Service to meet the demands of the role, this includes working a two-shift system between 07:00 22:00 Monday to Friday and 07:00 20:00 on weekends and bank holidays.

This work is physically demanding and involves lifting heavy equipment and pushing/pulling heavy trolleys up to 250kg.
