Job summary

Due to the expansion of services we are looking to recruit into 3.5 wte Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist or Psychological Therapist roles, there are opportunities for flexible working and part-time working. These Posts would be suited to a newly-qualified Practitioner Psychologist or an experienced Psychological Therapist who have an interest in working in Clinical Health Psychology and working within physical healthcare services.

There are opportunities to work within generic clinical health psychology services or work into a specific service including Cancer and Palliative Care, Bariatric Psychology, and Maternal Mental Health Services. As a department we value staff wellbeing and development and will work with you to carve a role that suits your interests and experiences as well as meets the needs of the Service.

As a Band 7 practitioner you will be provided with line-management and one-to-one clinical supervision by an experienced and senior psychologist within the Department and have access to CPD and the support of the wider department. We work closely with University of Sunderland colleagues and so there are opportunities for research and service evaluations. Psychology is highly-valued within STSFT and you will be supported to continue to develop and grow the Service.

Main duties of the job

This role is well-suited to someone who has an interest in working within physical health services and working as part of a wider MDT. The role of a Band 7 practitioner will be diverse and there are opportunities to not only develop and consolidate core therapeutic clinical skills, but also develop skills and experience in devising and delivering training, providing consultation and supervision to MDT members. You may have previous experiences of working within physical health services or with physical health conditions, but this is not essential.

There are opportunities to form part of Specialist Interest Groups both regionally and nationally, and you will be supported to develop within your role.

There is flexibility with work patterns, including part-time work and condensed hours. As we are looking to Appoint into four Posts, we would advise anyone interested to contact the Department to discuss the potential roles in further depth.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A Degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership with British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • Post-graduate Applied Psychology training accredited by HCPC allowing registration as a Practitioner Psychologist (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
  • HCPC-Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • OR
  • Qualification from High Intensity IAPT Course (Post Graduate Diploma).
  • Accredited with the BABCP.
  • OR
  • Recorded/Registered core professional qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or a psychological therapy plus further post-graduate qualification training in a in CBT.
  • Accredited with the BABCP.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within the NHS.
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional team.
  • Experience of working with adults who have mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for patients psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan with appropriate supervision.
