Job summary
We are recruiting a full-time Apprentice Clerical Officer to our PREP (Peri-operative Risk Evaluation & Preparation) admin team, to rotate shifts between Sunderland Royal Hospital & South Tyneside Hospital.
You will support a small team of administrative support staff, who will provide essential administrative functions, whilst liaising with clinical, nursing, administrative staff, patients, and the general public. The Service supports all surgical Directorates throughout the Trust and you would be expected to carry-out a variety of administrative tasks to allow you to support the referring clinical and administrative teams.
You should have excellent keyboard skills and a working knowledge of IT systems. The duration of the Apprenticeship is 18 months subject to regular reviews to demonstrate progress and following successful completion will be moved into a permanent position. Apprentices commence on Annex 21 of the salary stated, and,to support development in the role, you are required to complete a L2 Customer Service Practitioner Standard over the period of the Apprenticeship. Maths and English Language are required at GCSE Grade minimum grade C/4 (or L2 equivalent in those same subjects).

Main duties of the job
To provide clerical and administrative duties, supporting the provision of an efficient and effective service to the PREP/Pre-Assessment Department, and all service users throughout the Trust.
To greet patients, registering their details, to take phone calls, deal with queries, signpost or forward calls as required.
To contribute to effective communication links between all members of the PREP/Pre-Assessment Department, and the Surgical Directorates.
Maintain accurate electronic information systems, with previous experience of Meditech Version 6 being desirable.
You must be able to demonstrate that you have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels by telephone and in person. Excellent organisational skills and time-management are also integral to the role. The ability to prioritise workloads is also essential.
At times you may be expected to work across sites, Trust-wide to support the needs to of the PREP / Pre-Assessment service.
The hours of this role are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00.
