An exciting opportunity has arisen at Sunderland Eye Infirmary (SEI), for a Band 7 Registered Adult Nurse as an Eye Emergency Clinical Practitioner (37.5hours per week). This busy ophthalmic Emergency Department offers a 24/7-day service where staff work on a rota basis to ensure the needs of the service are met. The team ensures the delivery of a fast, high-quality service to patients attending ED with a variety of ophthalmic conditions. The successful candidate will need to have extensive post registration clinical experience in Ophthalmology. We are also excited to offer this position as a developmental post for the right candidate, this would be as a trainee Clinical practitioner in a band 6 role until training is fully completed.

Main duties of the job

You will work as an autonomous practitioner, making clinical decisions relevant to patient care and treatment/management plan and will need to prioritise your workload to ensure patients receive care within an appropriate time frame. You will also need to be able to deal with conflict and challenging behaviour in a calm practical manner.

It is expected that the post holder will provide SEI senior nurse site cover when on duty in the absence of the Matron and participate in the night duty on call rota you will also work a variety of shift patterns and public holidays to ensure 24/7 service provision.

The successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity in the future to work in the purpose-built new state-of-the-art Sunderland Eye Hospital situated in Sunderland city centre which is expected to open in 2026.
