We are looking for an Orthoptist (30 hours per week) with experience or interest in Neuro-Orthoptics to join our friendly team of eightOrthoptists, nine Optometrists and two paediatric Ophthalmologists. They will work closely alongside our specialist Neuro-Ophthalmologist at Sunderland Eye Infirmary and have the unique opportunity to develop and establish the Neuro-Orthoptic role in accordance to the service requirements.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will lead and run Neuro-Orthoptic service and will be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering and monitoring this service. They will undertake a clinical leadership role and will require specialist knowledge within the Neuro-Ophthalmology Orthoptic service domain. Consideration will be given for candidates expressing a keen interest for this role who have not yet attained advanced Neuro-Orthoptic knowledge as training and development opportunities will be provided for further skill enhancement.

This role will work closely alongside our consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist in consultant lead Orthoptic delivered Neuro-Ophthalmology clinics. The role will also comprise of joint Orthoptic and Neuro consultant clinics. In addition to this, the role provides a varied caseload with patients from Maxillofacial, Emergency care, Adult Motility and acute stroke services. This role also offers the opportunity for paediatric Orthoptic practice for those who express an interest as there is flexibility for 1 general Orthoptic clinic per week. The role requires experience in assessing and managing neuro-Orthoptic patients via skilled Orthoptic testing as well as the ability to interpret OCT and other Ophthalmological imaging in accordance with the diagnosis and patient management process.
