Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Renal Ambulatory Care (RAC) team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

RAC is based in Renal Medicine, Sunderland Royal Hospital

You will work alongside experienced renal staff to provide safe effective care for renal patients.

The department is looking to recruit a dynamic and forward thinking Health Care Assistant.

Renal experience is desirable but not essential for this role.

The successful candidate will be fully trained in all aspects of the job over a 6 month period completing competency based assessments with full mentor support.

This is currently a 5 day service running from Monday to Friday from 08:00 16:30

Main duties of the job

RAC provides outpatient services and care to patients living in and around Sunderland, Durham, South Tyneside and Washington areas

Within this role the successful candidate will provide nursing care and support to patients, and deliver prescribed day case treatments

Other aspects of the job include: Housekeeping, stock control, cleaning, patient flow and, transport bookings

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in a care setting as a paid carer.
  • Recent or current health care assistant experience on the NHS settings.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a renal setting.

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Maths and English at level 1 or above (GCSE A G or equivalent).
  • Level 2 Health/Health and Social Care NVQ or committed to completing a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker qualification on commencement to post.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to communicate health related information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient.
  • Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic skills of empathy and reassurance.
  • Basic keyboard skills.
  • Ability to use basic email system and document clearly, using plain English.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment.
  • General understanding of confidentiality requirements in a health care setting.
  • Willing to undertake further training related to role.
