Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a passionate, enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse
with excellent communication and leadership skills to join our team as a Junior
Sister/Charge Nurse on one of the Care of the Elderly wards, E52.
The
ward is a busy 27 bedded ward, within the Directorate of Rehabilitation and
Elderly Medicine based at Sunderland Royal Hospital. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse should be
someone who is excited by the prospect of supporting the Ward Manager and ward team
in the delivery of high-quality care and continuing improvement of the service.
This
is an exciting and rewarding role, which would be suitable for a candidate with
Older Persons experience and a strong track record of working collaboratively
to maintain and develop safe, effective and compassionate services.The post holder must be able to demonstrate
proactive multidisciplinary working, possess communication and organisational skills with evidence of a degree
qualification or currently be on
the degree pathway in nursing.

Main duties of the job
You will be
responsible for supporting the Band 7, to provide management support for the COTE
team, which entails managing the Nursing team. This includes, but not limited
to:
- Allocation of
staff to teams, and ensuring they are working within their level of
competence/skill mix.
- Working alongside
the MDT, to ensure patients receive appropriate care.
- Liaising with the
operational teams, to ensure timely admission, transfer and discharge of
patients.
- Taking charge in
challenging circumstances within the ward, and ensuring that support is given
to junior colleagues at all times.
- Assisting the
Band 7 to ensure appraisals, mandatory training and competency assessments for
all nursing staff are kept up to date.
- Leading the
nursing team in the absence of the ward manager and being a role model,
ensuring the environment is maintained to a high standard.
- Expected to
deliver, hands on clinical care to patients, and to assist the ward manager in
the implementation, and delivery of the clinical and non-clinical governance
agenda within the care environment.
- Ensure that safe,
effective and holistic patient care is delivered, and coordinate patients
overall plan of care throughout the patient journey.
- Agree own
personal development plan with line manager to ensure active revalidation with
the NMC.
- Promote
excellence in nursing care, and demonstrate evidence based best practice.
