We are looking to
recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated staff nurse whom can demonstrate
good clinical ability in the delivery of acute cardiology care. You should be willing to develop your
professional practice within a dynamic clinical environment. Prior experience of cardiology in secondary
or tertiary care is desirable. A
willingness to take on new roles and responsibilities is essential within our
dynamic service that aspires to deliver the very best of care.
We have a purpose
built Cardiac Centre that incorporates nurse led chest pain assessment,
invasive and non-invasive investigations as well as two Cath Labs. Our newest bespoke Cath Lab is used in our
aspirations to develop acute cardiology provision with the very best in cutting
edge medical technology. The team also provide an oncall rota for emergency
cath lab cases in addition to standard working hours.
Day to day rotation
takes place between Cath Lab (theatre environment), recovery area and pre
assessment. Rotation to other areas of the Cardiology Dept may be required.
Cardiology is part of
the Cardiothoracic team.

Main duties of the job
Key requirements:
You will need to be
an enthusiastic and motivated healthcare professional with a keen ability to
learn and develop new skills in a fast paced diagnostic and interventional
cardiology setting. Working alongside a dynamic multidisciplinary team you will
need to be flexible to the changing needs of the service. Previous cardiology
experience is desirable and the ability when trained to participate in an out
of hours oncall rota.

The successful candidate will be
required to work within the cardiac cath lab, recovery area and pre-assessment
clinic.
The role within the lab requires
close working with many members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver the
best patient care. Supporting the consultant by scrubbing as a second operator
and preparing and assisting with any equipment they may require during
procedures. The registered would also be required to complete clear and concise
documentation during procedure, flowing to support the preparation and
administration of any medications which may be required during the procedure.
Communicating with patients, offering reassurance and support. Assisting with
efficient patient flow in the lab. Ensuring all infection control and
prevention policies are followed.
The recovery area involves managing
the safe recovery of all patients post-procedures, with the support of the
healthcare assistant team. Recording and IT skills are essential in documenting
observations for a patient. Recognising and acting upon any concerns during a
patients recovery.
The pre-assessment involves
reviewing medications and observations for patients prior to their procedure.
Explaining the procedure, obtaining delegated consent and answering any patient
concerns. The pre-assessment clinic is an opportunity to identify any potential
concerns and enhance patient safety.
Contribution to an out of hours emergency on-call
service is essential. This involves being able to commute to the hospital
within thirty minutes.
