Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a passionate Health Care Assistant to work on our new Investigation and Intervention Unit (IIU) nursing team. We are looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic band 2 Health Care assistant who has a passion for delivering high quality care and wants to develop their clinical knowledge.

The Interventions and Investigating Unit (IIU) will have a high turnover of patients on a daily basis requiring high quality care. Patients will attend IIU to have timely investigations, interventions and day case procedures, by having a dedicated area for these patients to attend on a day case basis the unit will release capacity from acute adult inpatient wards and promote more effective flow and bed management. Based at Sunderland Royal Hospital this new purpose built day case facility will care for patients undergoing a variety of procedures covering a number of specialties both medical and surgical. Normal hours of working will be Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

Provide exemplary planned care for patients, assisting the registered practitioner in high quality compassionate care and assisting patients and their appropriate needs.

Excellent communications skills

Observation Monitoring and ECG recording

Accurate documentation skills

Phlebotomy skills

Collect and send specimens

Carry out tasks delegated by registered practitioner

Collect pharmacy items when required

Act as a chaperone and assist in procedures when required

Assisting with meal time and offering refreshments to patients

Plan and prioritise own work load

Book transport when required

Ensure patient areas/trolleys stocked and prepared for each patient

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 qualification in health and social care / customer care or equivalent in any subject.

Experience

  • Substantive customer services experience Or Experience of working in a caring role (paid or unpaid).

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate good customer care skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the Multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and visitors.
  • Basic skills of empathy and reassurance.
