An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior nurse to join the Rehabilitation and Elderly Medicine Directorate as a Matron for the Care of the Elderly service on a permanent basis. This is a chance for you to work in a senior nursing role where you will be fully supported in your professional development by the Directorate Senior Management and wider Nursing and Quality team.
The care of the elderly service at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest within the North East and Cumbria region and encompasses a range of specialities covering amongst others orthogeriatrics, acute frailty, movement disorders, FASS and community geriatrics.
Our ambition is to deliver outstanding care for older people and their families / carers and to be seen as the leading provider of geriatric care within the region. In order to achieve this ambition, we are seeking a senior nurse with the drive, enthusiasm, ambition and values to support our patients, directorate and divisional team.
The Matron provides strong clinical leadership within the services is highly visible and accessible to patients. Leading by example, the Matron will drive up standards of clinical care.
Main duties of the job
They have the responsibility and authority to get the essential components of care right for patients clean wards and departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect, resolving problems for patients and relatives and ensuring high standards are maintained and delivered throughout the services.
They will have a particular responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.
Cross site matron cover to support care of the elderly services may also be required
