Job summary

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a number of Trust Grade F3 doctors for 4-6 month rotations (over 12 months) to commence from August 2024, across a range of specialities. Applicants must have experience of working in the UK National Health System within the last 12 months.

These include cardiology, respiratory, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, elderly care medicine, renal and acute medicine). The posts will be based at either South Tyneside District Hospital or Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The posts are suitable for Doctors who have completed their Foundation Programme training (or equivalent). There may also be options to choose from other specialities on both sites.

Opportunities will be available to participate in the delivery of undergraduate & postgraduate teaching and simulation training at one or both sites. On-call commitments may vary according to the post and the requirements/experience of the post holder.

Although these posts are not recognised for training, trainees will be allocated to a clinical supervisor, and have the opportunity for supervised learning and feedback. They will also have access to department training meetings and local teaching.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that a comprehensive, effective and efficient service is provided within accepted standards by:

  • Providing a comprehensive service to patients within the confines of the role.
  • Providing a service to the emergency care, inpatient and outpatient departments as required meeting service needs.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of adequate clinical records. (Meditech training will be provided )
  • Initiation of patient management decisions including the initial planning of investigations and treatment, on-going care and discharge planning.
  • Participating in clinical review activities to monitor standards of practice and ensure the maintenance of quality outcomes.
  • Prepare written case reports, clinical audits and research as required within the role or a directed by the Clinical Lead.
  • Participate in ward rounds as required.

Ward work managing inpatients, working alongside the existing junior doctors with supervision from specialty trainees and consultants.

Outpatient clinic experience will be provided where relevant.

Manage workload within agreed timetable and ensure all administrative duties are included within this.

Support other junior medical staff.
