Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Phoenix Unit Team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Phoenix Unit - Sunderland site. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our team and support the delivery of high quality safe Oncology care. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with degree level education (Adult) or working towards with relevant current clinical experience. This is predominantly a nurse led unit so we are looking for experienced nurses with an eagerness to learn oncology and haematological treatment pathways. You will have extensive post registration experience. Mentorship skills would be desirable. N59/safe administration of chemotherapy would also be desirable. In this role, you will work closely with other departments to ensure the timely admission, treatment and discharge of patients requiring a range of treatments. You will ensure the best possible standards of patient care and maintain patient safety to assist in providing a positive patient experience. Main duties of the job
THIS VACANCY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL NURSES WISHING TO JOIN THE TRUST AS AN ADAPTATION NURSE. THESE VACANCIES WILL BE ADVERTISED VIA NHS JOBS WHEN THEY ARISE.
You will need to have excellent communication skills and be confident at communicating with patients who are facing a life limiting illness. You will need to be confident in communicating with all members of the multi-disciplinary team at all levels. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in caring for patients with cancer, who is keen to develop this and progress in the future. You will be expected to carry out venepuncture, venesection and cannulate patients daily. Aseptic non touch technique will be used in accessing Hickman Lines, PICCs and Ports full training can be provided in this you will need to be hard working, flexible and fit in well within our existing team. You will need to be able to demonstrate the Trust Values within your everyday work. Full training within Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) will be given and you will be expected to complete a university accredited course within this area within the first 12 months of the role.
