Job summary
Applicants are invited for this Joint Consultant post within
both the Neurology and the Stroke Medicine teams at South Tyneside and
Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT). The post is offered at 11.5PAs,
however LTFT applications will be considered.
The successful candidate will join the existing team of 5
Stroke and 6 Neurology consultants who deliver a range of services for patients
across both South Tyneside and Sunderland. Consultant activities will comprise
of a range of inpatient and outpatient activity for both the Neurology and
Stroke services. Clinical management of patients is well supported through the
use of telemedicine for stroke and developed multi-disciplinary links for
Neurology with Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals.
In addition there are close links and working
relationships with emergency medicine and colleagues from other specialities
from across the Trust. Applicants must possess MRCP, hold a CCST and be on the
GMCs Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of being admitted to the GMCs
Specialist Register. Skills in undergraduate teaching and emergency medicine
are desirable.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder
will be expected to develop, in conjunction with the department, a
comprehensive service for both neurology and stroke services and contribute to in
and out of hours activity, including weekend/Bank Holiday review. All
applicants must participate in an agreed share of the consultant rota.
Clinical
Provision and delivery of consultant support for patients
requiring neurology or stroke care
Provision of assessment and triage of patients requiring
complex interventions
Ability to facilitate discussions and/or onward referrals
for patients with neurological or stroke related problems requiring input and/or
specialist care
Support outpatient services such as Neurology and Stroke
OP clinics across both sites / where needed
Actively participate in both Neurology and Stroke MDT and
any other meetings necessary to patient care
Support the clinical lead and clinical director with the
development of neurology and stroke services across STSFT.
Administrative
Participate in relevant local and national audit activities
Attendance at clinical governance activities / meetings
Act as an educational and clinical supervisor for junior
medical staff in training
Support the delivery of integrated neurology and stroke services
as required
Research
Participate in existing clinical trials and research
within the service
Along with the STSFT research and innovation team, assist
with the recruitment of potential participants into future research studies
